Why do scientist say that cats and dogs only see in black and white and that birds dont have tast buds, then why is it that birds are picky and only like to eat certain treats. How do they know when they arent the animal. Couldnt it be maybe that animals bodies are just different from us?
Dogs do not only see in black and white to be absolutely correct. Dogs do not have the ability to see the breadth of color that humans do even though they have both rods and cones. If a human can't see red or green they could be deemed color blind.
Scientists have observed cat and dog behavior and over many trials have seen that dogs and cats do not react to subtle changes in color when all else is the same; therefor we assume that means they are colorblind.
Yet what does colorblind mean to a dog? If I ask you to describe the color "red" you may give me examples of things that are red or descriptions of heat as being "red" but that may not mean anything to me. We have no concept of how a dog truly thinks. we can see actions, but not thoughts.
The same is true of birds, it is simply an educated guess based upon observation of what they eat and the fact that (for example) birds have a very poor sense of smell. If you pick up a baby bird and put it back into the nest the mother bird will not reject it as the urban legend goes. We understand that our sense of smell and taste are closely linked so we think a birds must be as well.

I am interested in nutitional veggies, not perfect looking tastless ones. I used a well know flower and veggie plant food last year (Miracle Grow) makes nice flowers.The fruit did not taste sweet and the skins were thick and tough. I have added more garden soil and composted manure this year but I want something more to boost the crop in quantity and taste. Any suggestions? Or should that be enough? I am looking for a home made organic fertilizer, any tried and true recipes? I am planning on sharing what ever grows with family and neighbors. so I am hoping for a bumper crop. I am growing lots of tomatos,cucumbers, some watermelon,carrots,yellow beans,radishes,chives,parsley..oh yes flowers lots. I wanted more but ran out of garden darn!

Ok, it is not going to smell like flowers, but once is under the earth the smell disappears.
Any plant, tree will grow stronger with manure.
Coffee dregs also works, not as strongly but it is useful.
My tomatoes go crazy if I give them diluted fish emulsion- you can find it at most gardening supply stores. It is organic garden fertilizer recipedark brown and really
stinky, but use about 1 cup per gallon of water and feed once a
month. (Roses and calla lillies love this too)

Be sure to water the hole before putting the plant in. Mulch.Mulch.Mulch. Cukes need to be watered twice a day by soaker or drip watering. If you want small ones,leave all the fruit on the vine. If you want big ones, pick all off but one. Same applies for all members of the curcubit family, squash, pumpkins, gourds,etc. Fish emulsion is great but expensive. If you do partials on your freshwater fish tanks, use the old water. Bury your kitchen wasted (not meat ) under your plants, If you have a neighbor that goes fishing, or you do, bury the carcasses in your garden-nothing better/\.good luck!
I have to agree with "Wazup" about his/her recommendation on incorporating manures into your soil prior to planting. If you can, try incorporating both chicken AND steer manure into your soil since you'll be get the beneficial microbes that are found in each. These microbes are extremely important because they're able to help protect your vegetables from various diseases and nematodes naturally as wellorganic garden fertilizer recipe as helping your roots absorb more of the available nutrients in the soil. These microbes will also help your soil form aggregates...which will allow oxygen and water to get to your roots.
I usually use redwood shavings (at planting) to help promote and boost microbial populations. You can also use corn meal to do the same but the downside to doing this is that it might attract some pests.
Since these manures are relatively low in nitrogen, you'll have to use other organic sources ..such as fish emulsion, blood meal or feather meal in order to supply the proper levels of N-P-K to your veggies. It will be difficult to make them yourself and you'll probably be offended by their odor, I'd recommend using some of the organic granular fertilizers that includes some/all of the aforementioned ingredients.
You can find many companies online that can provide you with what you're looking for. I found one website called: PlanetNatural.com but I'm sure there are several more out there closer to where you live.
I think you'll find the addition of manures and composts will greatly enhance the flavors to your vegetables.

i did this and mixed it with other rotteing foods and it works so good

If you want big ones, pick all off but one. Same applies for all members of the curcubit family, squash, pumpkins, gourds,etc. Fish emulsion is great but expensive. If you do partials on your freshwater fish tanks, use the old water. Bury your kitchen wasted (not meat ) under your plants, If you have a neighbor that goes fishing, or you do, bury the carcasses in your garden-nothing better/\.good luck!
I have to agree with "Wazup" about his/her recommendation on incorporating manures into your soil prior to planting. If you can, try incorporating both chicken AND steer manure into your soil since you'll be get the beneficial microbes that are found in each. These microbes are extremely important because they're able to help protect your vegetables from various diseases and nematodes naturally as wellorganic garden fertilizer recipe as helping your roots absorb more of the available nutrients in the soil. These microbes will also help your soil form aggregates...which will allow oxygen and water to get to your roots.
I usually use redwood shavings (at planting) to help promote and boost microbial populations. You can also use corn meal to do the same but the downside to doing this is that it might attract some pests.
Since these manures are relatively low in nitrogen, you'll have to use other organic sources ..such as fish emulsion, blood meal or feather meal in order to supply the proper levels of N-P-K to your veggies. It will be difficult to make them yourself and you'll probably be offended by their odor, I'd recommend using some of the organic granular fertilizers that includes some/all of the aforementioned ingredients.
You can find many companies online that can provide you with what you're looking for. I found one website called: PlanetNatural.com but I'm sure there are several more out there closer to where you live.
I think you'll find the addition of manures and composts will greatly enhance the flavors to your vegetables.

People are even completely confusing the issue assuming that everyone wants to go to work high or smoke on the clock, when really, they just want equal protection under the law as someone on any other legally rx'ed medication would. You know, you are even protected if you have thc in your system if you have an rx for marinol, but not a medical marijuana card?
So, I think there are some legit people out there just trying to figure out how to not get caught up in all the political bs going on around amrijuana, but still use the medicine their doctor has recomended.
4. I completely agree with you on this. And what drives me nuts is that 90% of them have posted such crappy and unflattering pictures that it could be miss america and she would still look ugly as hell.

Ever since I started the said extended release med, I seem to be having a lot more nightmares as well. I called my psychiatrist who I'm switching from, and she said to give them another week, which I did, but it remained the same. I'm realizing that I should have called her back to see whether I should continue my original meds or what. I don't know what the Mayo Clinic diet is, but I tried the Atkins and the South Beach diet and I became very very ill. My blood sugar kept dropping and I was out of work for 2 1/2 months because of this.
If you want to lose weight, the best way to go is to limit your food intake, eat normal, drink a lot of water and excercise. Just eat limited portions and don't eat everytime you feel hungry. If you snack, snack on something like peanut butter crackers that is the most satisfying snack, I have found that peanut butter keeps my blood sugar in balance which in return controls my appetite.
If you eat fast food, select chicken instead of beef, skip the fries, or eat one of the salads. A lot of the fast food restaurantsmayo clinic atkins diet have delicious salads.

I am a US Army NCO and one of the longest running debates is how to start a run - sprint or jog. I run a 13:30 two mile and a 58:00 eight mile - so I am an OK runner.
But when training others who average 14:00 to 17:00 two-mile times what is the best way to start a 4 mile run.
This is for an information paper so I need more than opinion (although I want to hear those too). Please give as many references as you can.
I've had the best luck with an intervalic aproach.Starting slow after a warm up and strtch,then a brief sprint in intervals.The logic behind this lies in the fuels used for both types of activity(aerobic and anaerobic) and the physiological (or biological) processes that take place.During aerobic activity your body mainly uses fat converted to glucose through either ketosis or gluconeogenisis.
Anaerobic actvity mainly uses glycogen(stored carbohydrates) for fuel.This will eventually cause a lactic acid build up in the muscles.The slower pace after will help these acid levels dhow fast can you run a mileisipate and the body buffer these acids to remake fuels like ATP(adenosine triphosphate) and glucose.The Krebs Cycle is involved to some degree here as well.
Your nubers are pretty good right now.My suggestions would be the careful choice of your day before pre run carb up.Of course long chain carbs help most but the addition of fructose(fruit sugar) will be better for replacing and storing liver glycogen(long term glycogen storage).Fructose is four times moere effective in replacing liver glycogen than any other carbohydrate.
One supplement that seems to be of great interest in this particular forum is Beta Alanine.It has been shown in numerous studies to increase the buffering rate of lactic acids.

Intervals & tempo runs are good speed training for short & mid distance. But for racing, you want to run even splits or hang with the leaders.

Run fairly steady and keep an even pace. Then check how your are feeling in the last 1/2 mile. If it's a race you may be able to sprint to the finish line. It is sometimes better to allow the other runners to set the pace and then sprint the last few hundred yards.
If u r running a long way, u should start slowly. let the others go ahead, pick up ur speed after jogging 200m approx..

opiate withdrawal sneezingHow long before I am free of codeine addiction withdrawal symptoms?
Six weeks ago, I realised I had got myself addicted to Boots own paracetamol and codeine tablets - 6/8 a day taken regular as clockwork for at least eight years. I stopped immediately and went cold turkey. I suffered all of the classic opiate withdrawal symptoms: muscle ache, tiredness and exhaustion, sneezing, itching, yawning and anxiety, but I think the worst is over (NB my GP said he would not have recommended cold turkey but said now I had started I should carry on). I still get very tired and exhausted and yawn a lot, and I am sick of it. Can anyone tell me when I reasonably expect to be back to normal and withdrawal symptom free?
After the initial withdrawal, it can take up to three months for your body to start reproducing, endorhpins and dopamine. These are neurotransmitters that produce feelings of well being, Opiate addiction depletes the bodys capacity to produce these, and other neurotransmitters, and hormones. Stick with it , you'll soon turn the corner. M.

I am afraid the potential for addiction of both over the counter co-codamol and the prescribed tablets, some of which have even more codeine, is grossly underestimated by the medical profession. You have my sympathy. I fought a pretty thankless battle to get prescribing locally reduced, even with the help of the local pharmacy prescribing advisor, for 15 years, before I retired.
They are often started in hospital when patients are in patients, and then continued by the GPs indefinitely!
There are no easy pharmacological alternatives to aid the withdrawal process, and fo this particular drug, I usually advised gradual withdrawal. Cold turkey is unpleasant but often useful. Unfortunately doctors have been taught that it is not a PC method of dealing with addiction.
However when I worked for the Scottish Prison Service as a PMO, it was the method preferred by many opiate addicts!
Sorry I almost forgot to answer your question! I would have thought physical withdrawal should not taopiate withdrawal sneezingke more than a week, unfortunately psychological withdrawal has no real measurable timescale.
I've been there although mine was only a 6 month usage. I weaned myself down over 2 weeks and I guess it to OK a good 2-3 months after stopping completely before I started feeling like I had the same energy levels. It might be longer for you as you were on them so long but ask your Dr if its ok to use an energy drink mid day to pep you up although I guess this could be swapping one fix for another. It could also be that youre 8 years older and would have been finding yourself more tired even without having become addicted...you just wouldnt have noticed it creeping up on you over 8 years.
I think there needs to be a much bigger warning on these paracetamol/codeine tablets to alert people. My brand were a chemists own brand and carried no warning but I bought them from Lloyd's the one day and I noticed a warning, that's when I realised I was probably a little dependant on them.
